Meet The Real Mel Gibson

I confess, I love the movie Braveheart. I chuckled through the Lethal Weapon series and thought Mad Max was a nice, wholesome family movie. Maybe that makes me a Mel Gibson fan, maybe not. But I found the emerging facts of his recent DUI arrest disturbing.

Consider these partial pages of the police report, courtesy of TMZ. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Office reports that, after Gibson was arrested, he went on an anti-semitic rant, exclaiming, among other things, that "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Now that's news to me. Maybe Gibson knows more about world history than I do.

Gibson also threatened the arresting officer and insulted a female officer. The day after his arrest, Gibson's image people went into spin control, and had him apologizing for his comments and behavior. Too late asshole buddy. Time to go the way of your pal, Danny Glover

I, for one, will not attend your movies in the future, or support any project you are involved in. I hope every police agency and association follows suit. I hope every parent whose children watch Disney programming follows suit. I hope that intelligent, fair-minded, unprejudiced movie-goers everywhere express their contempt of your conduct and hate speech and threats by boycotting all of your projects.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is America!

I was shocked and appalled at Gibson's comments. I've lost any and all respect for him.

You know, I already don't want to see Tom Cruise's movies because he's just nutty these days...hadn't really heard this story until now but we will definitely be keeping an eye on it. Jim's absolute number one favorite movie is Braveheart, too.

He's a douche. Tom Cruise too. It seems to me that extremist muslims are behind the wars of the world today. But then again, I'm not a Hollywood actor, just another average joe jerk.

I was a fan until I started hearing more about this whole thing. I thought he was a little off the way he was talking about his Passion of the Christ movie, but this proves he's way out there. Boycott Mel!

My, my, my. We've all made some mistakes and done/said things we didn't really mean or we're certainly not proud of. The only difference being...is that we're average "joe jerks" instead of celebrities all too often in the spotlight.

Yes, I too find Mel's conduct less than becoming...but isn't this some pretty harsh rhetoric?

Did all of you boycott watching the Dallas Cowboys play when they had their rash of problems with the law?

Did you call for Representative (D-RI) Patrick Kennedy's head on a pike when he pulled a boner by drinking, driving and crashing in Washington, DC in the wee hours of the morning?

While I can't defend Mel's conduct one tiny bit...I can hate his "sin" yet love this "sinner" can't I?

Sorry to be the squeaky wheel here...but I guess I'm willing to temper my opinions about the rantings of a guy that's had a bit too much to drink.

See you on the high ground.

I don't think it's harsh at all. We say in the cop world that a drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts, and I seriously doubt that he doesn't believe what he said, although I'm sure he wishes he hadn't said it. I don't care about Gibson or his stupid comments. What I care about is the fact that this story is all over the Arab media, and they tell their people that ALL Americans feel this way. Like the Dixie Chicks, it will be played over and over and over, and our enemies will eat it up. And I care about the Sheriff's deputies working the graveyard shift who were doing their jobs, and had to endure his threats and his vile comments and insults, simply because they stopped some drunk from killing a family of five. And I care about the arresting deputy whose house is being staked out by the media, and they hound him incessantly, trying to get him to say something about Gibson. And I care about the kids in my family who see these people as heroes, then think this kind of crap is acceptable because a movie star or athlete or politician does it. I won't support or give money to people like that.
I do appreciate your input though, thanks for reading and sharing you're thoughts!

Michael... Mel Gibson is an alcoholic. Has been for some time now. It was only a matter of time before something like this would happen. Having grown up with an alcoholic father, I can attest that their behavior is outrageous and down right dangerous at times. I'm not excusing what Mel did by any stretch of the imagination. But I do not allow other's actions and stupidity decide whether I'm going to see a movie or buy a CD or watch a certain television show. Hell, my social life sucks as it is... don't take away my music and movies too.... ;o)
